This Privacy Policy explains how ShadowingGO (the "Service") collects, uses, shares, and retains information when You use the Service, and describes Your rights regarding Your information.

By using the Service, You agree that Your information will be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information to provide and improve the Service.

Account Information

  • Email address
  • Supabase user ID used to identify Your account
  • Authentication state (sign-in / sign-out, session tokens)

Practice Data

  • Practice session records, scores, and progress information
  • Favorite videos and YouTube video request records
  • Usage counts and limits (for fair use enforcement)

Voice Data

  • Microphone audio captured during shadowing practice, transmitted to our speech-to-text (STT) provider for evaluation. We do not store the audio recordings themselves on our servers.
  • Transcription results produced by the speech-to-text provider, and derived practice results (scores and comparison output).

Billing and Subscription Information

  • Entitlement linkage records connecting Your account with Apple App Store, Google Play, or RevenueCat Web Billing (via Stripe)
  • Subscription status, renewal state, and expiration

Technical and Diagnostic Information

  • IP address, device type, operating system, browser type and version
  • Error reports, crash logs, and application diagnostic data
  • Session cookies used to maintain login state

We do not collect payment card details ourselves. Payment information is handled directly by Apple, Google, or our payment processor (Stripe via RevenueCat Web Billing).

Voice Recording Practices

ShadowingGO captures microphone audio only when You explicitly start a practice or recording action within the Service. We do not capture microphone audio in the background or outside of Your explicit actions.

Captured audio is transmitted to our speech-to-text (STT) provider to produce transcriptions, pronunciation feedback, and comparison with source subtitles. We do not store the audio recordings themselves on our servers. Only the transcription text and derived practice results (such as scores and comparison output) are retained as part of Your practice history.

Audio handling by the STT provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy. See the "Third-Party Service Providers and International Data Transfers" section below for details.

How We Use Information

  • To provide and operate the Service, including authentication and account management
  • To deliver subtitle display, speech recognition, scoring, practice history, and favorites
  • To enforce usage limits and manage subscription entitlements
  • To investigate errors, prevent abuse, and improve the Service
  • To send service-related notices, policy updates, and respond to support requests

Third-Party Service Providers and International Data Transfers

We use the following third-party service providers to operate the Service. These providers process information on our behalf and may store or process data in countries outside of Japan, including the United States. Each provider handles information in accordance with its own privacy policy.

  • Supabase (United States) — authentication and database hosting. Privacy Policy
  • Deepgram (United States) — speech-to-text processing for transcription of Your practice recordings. Privacy Policy
  • RevenueCat (United States) — subscription entitlement management and Web Billing. Privacy Policy
  • Stripe (United States) — payment processing for web subscriptions through RevenueCat Web Billing. Privacy Policy
  • Sentry (United States) — error monitoring and crash reporting. Privacy Policy
  • Apple (App Store) (United States) — in-app purchase processing on iOS / iPadOS. Privacy Policy
  • Google (Google Play) (United States) — in-app purchase processing on Android. Privacy Policy

We take reasonable measures to ensure that information transferred outside of Japan is handled with appropriate safeguards.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes.

  • Essential cookies — required for sign-in, session management, and security. The Service cannot function without these.
  • Functional cookies — remember Your language and UI preferences.

We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics). You can disable cookies through Your browser settings, but some Service features may stop working as a result.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Specifically:

  • Account information, practice history, favorites, and entitlement linkage records are retained while Your account is active.
  • When You delete Your account, account-owned records are removed or disconnected according to the deletion process described below.
  • Audio recordings themselves are not stored on our servers; only transcription text and derived practice results are retained as part of Your practice history.
  • Error and diagnostic data is retained for a limited period for troubleshooting and security purposes.

Account Deletion

You may delete Your account from within the app settings. If You cannot access the app, You may request deletion by emailing support@shadowinggo.com from Your registered email address. See the account deletion page for details.

Account deletion removes or disconnects app-owned profile records, practice history, favorite videos, video request records, and billing entitlement linkage records. We may retain certain information where we have a legal obligation or lawful basis to do so.

Important: Deleting Your ShadowingGO account does not automatically cancel an active subscription managed by Apple, Google Play, or RevenueCat Web Billing. You must cancel active subscriptions separately through the store or billing provider where the purchase was made.

Your Rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of processing of Your personal information, as well as the right to data portability and to withdraw consent, in accordance with applicable law (including Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information). To exercise these rights, please contact us at the address below. We may ask You to verify Your identity before responding.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If We become aware that We have collected such information, We will take reasonable steps to delete it.

EEA / UK Users (GDPR Summary)

If You are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, We process Your personal information on the basis of one or more of the following: Your consent, performance of a contract with You, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service. You have the right to lodge a complaint with Your local data protection authority.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect Your personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and We cannot guarantee absolute security.
